Pre-2026
Plans for 2026
There are a few things I want to intentionally try to do in 2026. A lot of this past year has felt like it melted by, even though it did go well, so I'd like to have a few goalposts to keep looking at.
- There's a job field related exam I really want to take. It takes anywhere from 3-18 months for most people depending on where you are at when you start, I'm hoping 6-9 months for me. It's self study, though, which sucks for my brain. I've spent the last month brainstorming a plan to start by Jan 1 so hopefully I can get something going and get this locked down.
- Related, I want a new job. More money is whatever but I really just want variety. More interesting work, less racist coworkers. This will be a lot easier after I pass the aforementioned exam.
- Related-related, I want to move. I'd love to get a few years in a big city before I get too old and cranky. The one near me would be fine, but one of the bigger ones further away would be interesting too. Probably still in the same country, though.
- Finally: I want to be more social and find a nice friend group to "click" with. I have a few one-off friends but between work schedules, life stages, incompatible hobbies, etc., I don't exactly have a "best friend" right now. I've been doing well with the climbing but everyone there is a "climbing friend" not a "hey, you busy Friday? I wanna go to X" friend. I genuinely just need to do stuff where other people looking for connections will be, I'm just too much of a shut in sometimes. I can work on that, though!
Manifestations for 2026
Some loose predictions and things I'd like that I don't want to consciously use energy to maintain as active goals.
- More bear blog posts, writing in public
- More journaling, writing for myself and my brain. Writing in general, really
- More reading books, maybe working through enough of my physical overflow to start checking things out from the library again
- Climb gooderer. Specifically building tendons for crimps and muscle for dynos/campusing. My one arm lock off strength is non-existent
- Don't let job stress/responsibility eat at me, don't work free overtime, don't take work home. Things are about to change a lot org-structure-wise but I don't want to let anything pile onto me.
- Get out of bed quicker after waking up... consistently.
- Drink more tea
- Listen to more varied music
- Read weirder books
- Buy weirder home decorations
- Meet cool people
- Overthrow the government
- Start doing photography? Maybe get some film for my polaroid camera or a cheapo digital camera?
